Allied Corrosion Industries: Cathodic Protection

Solid State Decoupler (SSD)

Allied Corrosion Industries has been selected as a stocking distributor of the latest advances in Decouplers and Grounding Mats designed and produced by Dairyland Electrical Industries, Inc. For years, the pipeline industry has been aware of the safety issues associated with induced AC current from electrical transmission lines. Only recently have we learned that induced AC may actually cause corrosion on our underground piping. The NACE Recommended Practice references 15 VAC or above as a safety hazard.

The new SSD functions as a DC isolation and AC coupling device (a "decoupler") preventing the flow of CP current. For voltage that attempts to exceed the threshold, the device instantly switches to a shorted mode, providing over-voltage protection. Then, the SSD automatically switches back to the DC blocking mode. This sequence is typically due to AC faults and lightning, which the SSD is rated for.

The other component that's being stocked by Allied Corrosion is a Gradient Control Mat (GCM). The GCM is an easy to use, low cost grounding mat that provides excellent characteristics for over-voltage protection of personnel. Specifically, only this type of low inductance mat can effectively provide lightning over-voltage for your employees and pipeline contractors. When decoupled from the pipeline using the SSD, the mat will not interact with the CP system, yet will still provide safety grounding. The decoupler and ground mat blocks -2V/+2V for isolation of the CP system, has a 1200A AC fault rating and a 75,000A lightning surge current rating.

Allied's corrosion professionals can assist with your AC mitigation problems and the aforementioned components are presently in stock. Other supportive components such as CP cable, Cadweld charges, galvanic anodes and petrolatum tape are also in stock for immediate delivery.
